“This is just so disgusting”: Petrol price hike hits Gauteng hardest, Diesel users can relax for now

South African motorists can expect to pay more to keep their car running. There will be another petrol price change on 1 May 2024 and Gauteng drivers will feel it the mosr.

What are SA’s petrol prices in May 2024?

The petrol prices in South Africa will increase to 36 cents per litre according to BusinessTech. This will make 95 unleaded petrol R24.69 on coastal land, while Gauteng petrol will cost R25.48 and 93 unleaded petrol will cost R25.14.

How much will diesel prices change in May 2024?

There is some good news for diesel users as the price will decrease by 30 cents for 500 ppm and by 37 cent for the cleaner 50 ppm. The price will be R22.27 per litre coastally and R24.23 in Gauteng.

South Africans complain about fuel prices

Many have felt the pinch as petrol has continued to rise since the beginning of 2024 with R1.21 in March and 75 cents for petrol in February . Online users lamented their experiences on X, complaining about how the fuel prices keep soaring.

“The ripple effect of the increase is quite dire. This is and leading to high inflation in the country .”

“Time for this government to drop the petrol levy at least. Enough of the fleecing off the top and how come Botswana’s petrol is so much cheaper and yet they buy it from us ? This thievery and not caring for the population needs to stop.”

Anusha Deoparsad was upset:

“Every month there is an increase. OUTRAGEOUS! Why are we just accepting this increase.. Should we pay for fuel or put food on our tables, how must we live in this country whilst government is taking all our money so they can be waxed – this is absolutely ridiculous. Government is taking us for a ride.”
