South African model and actress Lerato Kganyago was deemed the Queen of Valentine’s Day following years of extravagant gifts from her husband Thami Ndlala.

Businessman and entrepreneur Ndlala is reported to have a net worth of R1 billion, and he’s had no issue using money to spoil his wife, especially on Valentine’s Day. But while South Africans waited with bated breaths for this year’s gift, Lerato Kganyago and her husband were suffering a tragic loss.

Thami Ndlala’s History of extravagant gifts

In 2021, Thami Ndlala booked the entire FNB stadium and hired Lerato’s favourite artist, Zonke, to perform exclusively for her. The following year, he gifted her a luxury hotel with a restaurant and spa. The hotel was previously a mansion that was renovated for this outlandish Valentine’s Day gift.

To the country’s disappointment, the queen of love has been incredibly silent on social media, and recently she opened up about the reason for her silence.

Kganyago and Ndlala’s tragic loss

Lerato Kganyago recently revealed that she suffered the tragic loss of a child earlier this month. On Wednesday, February 21, the social media personality took to Instagram to share that she suffered a miscarriage earlier this month and even shared an image of a sonogram from a doctor’s visit.

Kganyago shared the following on her social media.

“On the 12th, my incredible gynae broke the news. I’m much better than last week, my parents have been next to me and have carried me! Thank you to those who have been checking on me. I was so hopeful. I’m a phoenix. I will be back. Dear Feb’, You’ve hurt me.”

Not Kganyago’s first tragic loss of a child

Unfortunately for Lerato and her family, this is not the first time she has suffered a miscarriage. In fact, the star revealed, it was her fourth. Despite this repeated loss, Kganyago is leaning on her husband and family for support during this time.

How to cope after miscarriage

Miscarriage, also referred to as early pregnancy loss or spontaneous abortion in medical terms, is unfortunately a very common experience for women trying to conceive.

Some netizens on social media made ignorant comments about Lerato after she bravely shared her story about child loss. Fans rallied behind Lerato to tell off trolls as they spread awareness about how common miscarriages are:

1 in 5 pregnancies end in miscarriage. According to Psychology Today, pregnancy loss is considered a miscarriage when a woman loses the child before 20 weeks with the most common symptoms of a miscarriage being heavy vaginal bleeding, cramping, low back pain, and the passing of blood clots.

While the experience can be traumatic and isolating, there are many resources and support systems available to provide support to mothers and their families during this tragic time. The Compassionate Friends of South Africa, have several support groups for grieving mothers and families. They can be reached by telephone at (084) 332 1876, Monday to Friday 9:00 to 13:00.
