American DJ and songwriter Diplo has been in a legal battle with Shelly Auguste since 2021, who is accusing him of distributing her nude photos without consent.
In 2021, Auguste initiated legal action against Diplo, alleging charges such as sexual battery, gender violence, intentional intrusion into private affairs, battery, assault, defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and fraud. The civil trial is scheduled to take place in April 2024.
Shelly Auguste speculates about Diplo’s intentions
Auguste filed a lawsuit because she believes Diplo has been spreading explicit images of her on the internet. According to Newsweek, this is the second time she has decided to take legal action on the issue. Auguste said she believed the producer was angry with her and his intentions were to get her back.
Most recently, Shelly said she got a protection order granted against Diplo. In her tweet, she said:
I did not JUST file a police report. It was thoroughly investigated, verified, and submitted to prosecutors. I was ALSO GRANTED a temporary restraining order against him.
Diplo refutes Shelly Auguste allegations
Diplo’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, told Newsweek that Ms Auguste has been conducting a continuous effort to tarnish Wes’s reputation for over three years, and this is simply a continuation of her previous actions. He added:
“Her recent attempt to enlist a co-conspirator to shake down Wes in a bogus lawsuit fell apart within days when indisputable evidence disproved her story, and the case was dismissed. Now, Ms. Auguste is at it yet again. But Wes will defend himself, and, just as he has done every time Ms. Auguste has defamed, harassed and attacked him and his family, he will win.”
Navigating the waters of an affair is tricky. The 2021 incident ended with Diplo filing a lawsuit of his own against August for stalking and trespassing. Diplo won 1.5 million in damages after the court ruled in his favour.
