Two young lives in Limpopo, Tebogo Mofumadi and Boitumelo Tshabalala, met a tragic end in the Makgodu River outside Polokwane on Monday.

The incident occurred while the boys were swimming with three friends, and it is reported that a storm may have played a role in the unfortunate event.

Reports suggest that a lightning strike occurred while the children were swimming. It’s still not certain what led to the drowning of Tebogo Mofumadi and Boitumelo Tshabalala.

The three surviving boys were promptly taken to the local hospital for medical treatment. Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba explained that the cause of death is pending the results of postmortem examinations.

KwaZulu-Natal Floods Claim 11 Lives

The eThekwini metro alone was devastated, with a number of casualties caused by heavy rains.

In the Tongaat area, the situation remains dire as search and rescue teams intensify efforts to locate two individuals whose shack was washed away in the storm.

South Africa Weather Service (SAWS) experts say the storm will continue to rage on through 15 January 2023.
