Trevor Noah thanks David Kibuuka and more SA talent as 1st black person to win Emmy for talk series

Trevor Noah’s departure from Comedy Central’s The Daily Show was overshadowed by his show’s monumental win in the Outstanding Talk Series category at the Emmys.

The victory marked a significant milestone for Trevor Noah, who made history since its introduction in 2015.

Trevor Noah clinches iconic Emmy win

According to SABC News, South Africa’s Trevor became the first African and first black person to clinch an Emmy in the Outstanding Talk Show category In his acceptance speech, Trevor gave credit to fellow South African comedians, saying:

“Can I just say this — this story has been so long, has been so crazy, it’s been so wonderful. I start by thanking the crazy Africans who followed me to this country, David Kibuuka, Joseph Opio — thank you so much (director) David (Paul) Meyer my partner in crime

He jokingly declared:

“I told you! I told you we would beat John Oliver if he wasn’t in our category. We did it. We got rid of John Oliver.”

The win comes after 17 nominations spanning five years. A testament to the excellent quality of The Daily Show and the dedicated team behind it.

Will Trevor Noah return to The Daily Show>

Trevor Noah shared his thoughts on the possibility of returning as the show’s host backstage. He revealed that the prospect of resuming his role hinged on his schedule.

“When I see everybody here in the same place, I’d gladly come back and work with everyone,” he said. However, a glance at his Wednesday schedule gave him pause, prompting him to humorously declare, “I wouldn’t do it.”

Trevor Noah’s replacement hasn’t been announced

Noah left The Daily Show chair in December 2022.  Leaving the show to feature a rotation of hosts. A permanent replacement meant to fit Trevor’s seat still hasn’t been announced.

Though he has left the show, Noah commended the writing staff. He assured fans that The Daily Show would continue to thrive, especially in the upcoming election year.
