Kenya to Go Visa-Free for Global Travelers from 2024

Kenya’s President William Ruto announced that the country’s visa rules will change in a historic way in January 2024, making it a visa-free destination for travellers from all over the world

Kenya hopes that this monumental decision will usher in a new era of global connectivity and economic growth.

William Ruto made a big announcement for the world on behalf of Kenya. In a speech, he said:

“Kenya will be a visa-free country. It shall no longer be necessary for any person from any corner of the globe to carry the burden of applying for a visa to come to Kenya,”

East African state streamlines entry with digital tool

To facilitate Kenya’s groundbreaking policy, a sophisticated digital platform has been created. This system will pre-identify travellers, granting them electronic travel authorization, thereby streamlining the entry process into the country.

President Ruto, who has long pushed for an open borderless Africa and easy travel, sent the world a simple but strong message: “Tobong’u Lorre!” – a call echoing the Turkana people’s sentiment: Welcome Home!

Kenya spearheads more visa-free partnerships

This important move comes after Kenya recently held talks with Indonesia’s leader, which led to Indonesian citizens no longer needing visas. As Kenya moves toward its goal of having no borders, Senegal, Congo, and soon the Comoros are likely to join the list of countries that don’t require visas to visit Kenya.
